Nebraska Wesleyan University, also referred to as simply NWU, is a private, co-ed university in Lincoln, which is the capital and the 2nd most populous city of the US state of Nebraska, also serving as the county seat of Lancaster County, housing over 251 000 people, within its limits, as estimated during the 2008 census.
NWU was established in 1887 and was founded by Nebraska Methodists. It currently offers its students a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs, combining `personal attention with a relentless focus on experiential and service learning.` In 2002, it was ranked the No. 1 liberal arts college in Nebraska by U.S. News and World Report, and, in 2009, Forbes ranked it 84th of America's Best Colleges.
NWU's athletic teams are known as the Prairie Wolves and they compete in NCAA Division III. Their distinctive colors are brown and gold.
